You really do need a dark setting to get a bright picture though. Trying this in daylight or with curtains drawn in the daytime, will definitely be affected by ambient light coming into the van, so don't expect the 100 ANSI lumen LED buld to give you a brilliant picture in anything less than darkness. A recent screening of the World War I movie ‘1917’ is a good example. During the movie, you could hear the faint buzzing from flies circling a dead horse blending seamlessly with footsteps and dialogue. I would expect that kind of audio from a theater grade setup.The contrast ratio is how well your projector manages light and dark images on-screen, highlighting the difference between shadows and bright lights together so you get that sharpness in your shows. You want this ratio to be as wide as possible so you don’t lose clarity if you move it out of a dark room. The quality of the lamp will affect the contrast ratio, and in most cases, it will be fine to enjoy movies outdoors in everything but direct sunlight or perhaps an evening movie as the sun fades.

The lamp offers a service life of 30,000 hours, but after those it’s hard to see it being replaceable – at least easily. But to put this number in perspective, if we were to use the projector for 24 hours a day it would be roughly three and a half years of constant usage; with eight hours a day of use it would be more than ten years. I guess that’s plenty of time.
Are portable mini projectors worth it?
It takes a second to move the cursor on your MacBook when using screen mirroring and a device like the iPhone 10 often crashes and requires tedious reconnection that takes about 10 seconds, even when doing something as simple as changing the volume.
