It’s best to remove the microSD card and use a card reader on your PC or Mac. You can drag and drop the files, or use Nextbase’s Replay 3 program. This allows you to see the video along with all the other recorded GPS and G-sensor data, plus your location on the map. It works well, and can provide extra evidence, if needed, about a collision. Verdict When it detects the rear camera is plugged in at power on then it asks where you would like the PiP to appear which is ok, but then it enters fault mode in displaying a yellow PiP frame with no content. Power off/on is then required before the unit puts content in the frame - this is clearly a bug. It is a software fault when all that is required to cure it is to restart the software. Ok - off/on is all that's needed but the unit takes 3 to 4 seconds to go into power down mode and another 3 to 4 seconds to power up and perform as expected. Ah yes. It seemed an obvious autocorrect error, but I couldn't un-autocorrect it to anything sensible.
Review: Nextbase 512GW and 512GWRC dual dash cam
Gently prise up the circuit board, it should unclip from the front housing (some small plastic lugs). This gives access to the battery inside the front housing. It won’t allow your battery to run flat, as it will turn off if it detects a certain voltage. Nextbase says it uses so little power in sleep mode that it will work even if you leave you car parked for several weeks. Nextbase 512GW: Performance Then the Dash Cam will be visible as a removable drive on your computer. If you go into My Computer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) you will be able to see the Dash Cam listed as a drive, usually called NEXTBASE. The 512-G signals a new generation of dash cam. We’ve listened to consumers who noted that crystal clear image quality on an in car camera is vital. Having added a host of new features to ensure that the 512-G stands head and shoulders above others in the market, we believe the 512-G will be the best dash cam on the market for some time to come. “Glare and reflection can result in poor and distorted footage no matter how good your dash cam. But the polarising filter in the 512-G completely eradicates this problem completely – the first, and only dash cam in world to do so.”

The mount includes a mini-USB connector that you can attach to the long car power cable. Unfortunately, this has a non-removable car cigarette light adapter at the other end, so you won’t easily be able to hook up the 512GW and a satnav to automotive power – unless your car has a USB connection and the satnav can make use of this. The new Nextbase range takes microSD cards up to 64GB - we're currently using 32GB microSD cards in ours. As for the batteries, they've been upgraded along with the rest of the dash cam hardware. They range now uses Lithium Polymer batteries (3.7V/320mAh) and intelligent battery charging with thermal cut out in the circuity – this ensures the batteries now charge at the correct rate depending on their temperature and dramatically prolongs their life. Should I buy one? Fault:- when first power up after connecting 512 to rear cam then inserting 512 into windscreen mount is the PiP of rear view is just an outline. Nextbase suggestion is power off power on - and it works every time - rear PiP then contains correct view. This will perform as expected through numerous power off power on sequences while remaining plugged in, but after overnight disconnected the above fault will always show.
